Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

  2. Make Dough: In a large bowl, mix flour and kosher salt. Add the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.

  3. Shape Rings: Divide dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and shape into a ring, sealing the ends.

  4. Prepare Baking Soda Bath: In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda. Boil each pretzel ring for 30 seconds, then remove and let drain.

  5. Brush & Bake: Place rings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
