Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 6 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Cook the Bacon: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and crumble it into small pieces. Set aside.
  • Brown the Ground Beef: In the same skillet, add the ground beef and cook until browned. Break up the meat with a spoon as it cooks.
  • Sauté the Vegetables: Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook for about 5 minutes, until the vegetables soften and the onions turn translucent.
  • Add the Sauce Ingredients: Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.
  • Combine Bacon and Cheese: Stir the crumbled bacon into the sloppy joe mixture. Top with shredded cheddar cheese and allow it to melt for 1-2 minutes.
  • Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Spoon the mixture onto the toasted hamburger buns. Top with extra cheese if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try adding a few dashes of hot sauce or chili flakes to the sloppy joe mixture.
  • Feel free to swap the cheddar cheese with your favorite melty cheese.
  • The mixture can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days for a quick reheating.
