Description

Char Siu Chicken is a delectable dish that has captivated taste buds around the world. Originating from the rich culinary traditions of China, this savory and slightly sweet chicken creation is a true sensation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese rice wine or dry sherry
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sliced green onions, for garnish
  • Toasted sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, rice wine, sesame oil, garlic, five-spice powder, ginger, salt, and pepper.

2. Marinate the Chicken: Place the chicken in a resealable bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to overnight, to allow the flavors to infuse the meat.

3. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly grease it.

4. Bake the Chicken: Transfer the marinated chicken to the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20–25 minutes, turning the chicken halfway, until it is cooked through and caramelized.

5. Serve and Enjoy: Garnish the Char Siu Chicken with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Serve it with steamed rice or your favorite vegetable side dishes.

Notes

Char Siu Chicken can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. It makes an excellent main dish, served with steamed rice and stir-fried or roasted vegetables. The caramelized chicken can also be added to salads, noodle dishes, or fried rice for an extra boost of flavor.
