Description
Chicken Sausage and Broccoli Orzo is a flavorful one-pot meal combining chicken sausage, broccoli, and orzo pasta in a savory broth, finished with Parmesan cheese.
Ingredients
- 2 cup orzo pasta
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound chicken sausage, sliced
- 2 cup broccoli florets
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cup chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
2. Once the sausage is cooked, stir in the minced garlic and broccoli florets. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until the broccoli is slightly softened and the garlic is fragrant.
3. Next, add the orzo to the skillet and pour in the chicken broth. Stir in the Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the orzo is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed.
4. Finally, stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until it’s melted and the dish is creamy and cheesy.
5. Sprinkle the Chicken Sausage and Broccoli Orzo with the fresh parsley and serve warm.
Notes
This dish is versatile; you can substitute turkey sausage or other vegetables like spinach or bell peppers. For a gluten-free option, use quinoa or brown rice instead of orzo.
