Description

Get ready to experience a flavor explosion with these scrumptious French Onion Beef Sloppy Joes! This unique twist on a classic comfort food favorite combines the savory richness of caramelized onions with the heartiness of ground beef and the melty goodness of Swiss cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 2 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • Fresh thyme (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they’re golden brown and caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.

2. Once the onions are ready, add the ground beef and garlic to the skillet. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spatula, until it’s browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

3. Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, and soy sauce. Let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4. Lightly toast the hamburger buns under a broiler or in a toaster oven.

5. Spoon the filling onto the bottom buns, top with shredded Swiss cheese, and place under the broiler for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

6. Add the top buns and garnish with fresh thyme if desired. Serve hot.

Notes

These French Onion Beef Sloppy Joes pair wonderfully with crispy french fries, creamy coleslaw, or a fresh garden salad.
