Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)
For the Gravy:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, finely chopped onion, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until evenly combined.
- Form the Steaks: Divide the mixture into 4 portions and shape each into a patty, about 1 inch thick.
- Cook the Salisbury Steaks: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- Make the Brown Gravy: In the same skillet, melt butter. Add sliced onion and sauté for 5 minutes. Sprinkle flour over the onions, stir to form a roux. Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Combine and Serve: Return the cooked steaks to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Serve: Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite sides.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of thyme or rosemary to the gravy.
- If you want a thicker gravy, increase the flour by 1/2 tablespoon.
- Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently before serving.
