Description
Shrimp & Grits Casserole is a beloved dish that has become synonymous with the rich culinary heritage of the American South. This creamy, cheesy masterpiece combines the succulent sweetness of shrimp with the comforting creaminess of grits, creating a dish that is both indulgent and satisfying.
Ingredients
- 4 cup chicken broth
- 2 cup water
- 1 cup quick-cooking grits
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon paprika
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
2. In a large saucepan, bring the chicken broth and water to a boil. Gradually whisk in the grits and reduce the heat, simmering for 5 minutes while stirring frequently until thickened.
3. Remove the grits from the heat and stir in the heavy cream, butter, 1½ cup of the shredded cheese, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
4. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the onion, bell pepper, and garlic until softened.
5. Add the shrimp, Cajun seasoning, and paprika to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes, or until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.
6. Fold the shrimp mixture into the creamy grits, ensuring the flavors are well combined.
7. Transfer the Shrimp & Grits Casserole mixture to the prepared baking dish and top with the remaining cheese.
8. Bake the casserole for 25-30 minutes, or until it’s bubbly and the cheese is golden brown.
9. Allow the casserole to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Choose fresh, high-quality shrimp for the best flavor and texture. Avoid overcooking the shrimp to prevent them from becoming rubbery.
Adjust the spice level to your personal preference by adding more or less Cajun seasoning and paprika.
Pay close attention to the consistency of the grits, adding more liquid if they become too thick.
Experiment with different cheese varieties to find your favorite flavor combination.
