Ingredients
-
1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
-
4 slices of bacon
-
1 large onion, sliced
-
1/2 cup Irish stout (such as Guinness)
-
1/2 cup cheddar cheese, grated
-
1/2 cup sour cream
-
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-
Salt and pepper to taste
-
4 burger buns (preferably brioche)
-
Butter (for toasting buns)
Instructions
-
Cook Bacon: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside on paper towels.
-
Sauté Onions: In the same skillet, cook sliced onions until soft and caramelized. Add Irish stout and cook until the mixture is reduced and sticky.
-
Prepare Sauce: In a bowl, combine sour cream, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Set aside.
-
Form & Cook Patties: Shape the ground beef into 4 patties and season with salt and pepper. Grill or pan-fry to your preferred level of doneness. Top each patty with cheddar cheese and let it melt.
-
Toast Buns: Lightly butter the buns and toast them until golden brown.
-
Assemble Burgers: Spread sauce on the buns, add the burger patty, caramelized onions, and crispy bacon. Place the top bun and serve hot.
Notes
-
For extra flavor, substitute the brioche buns with pretzel buns for a twist on the classic.
-
If you prefer a different cheese, gouda or Swiss cheese would work great in place of cheddar.
-
This burger can be made ahead by prepping the patties and sauce a day before cooking.
