Description

These Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes combine the savory flavors of a classic Philly cheesesteak with the comfort of sloppy joes. With ground beef, sautéed peppers, onions, and melted provolone cheese, this easy dinner is perfect for any night of the week!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns

Instructions

  • Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Sauté the Veggies: Add the diced bell pepper and onion to the skillet with the beef. Cook for about 5 minutes, until softened. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Add the Sauce Ingredients: Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and flour. Cook for 1-2 minutes to allow the flour to absorb and thicken.
  • Add the Beef Broth: Slowly add the beef broth to the skillet, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened to a sloppy joe consistency.
  • Melt the Cheese: Place a slice of provolone cheese on top of each serving and cover the skillet for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese.
  • Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Spoon the beef mixture onto the hamburger buns and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, toast the buns before serving.
  • You can substitute provolone with another melting cheese like mozzarella or cheddar.
  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes when cooking the veggies.
